Choral Program


Hillcrest’s choral program offers pathways for students at every stage of their musical journey, from early exploration to advanced performance. Whether participating in a curriculum choir or striving for excellence in an auditioned ensemble, every student is given the opportunity to find their voice and experience the power of choral music.

Blokes (Boys with Unchanged Voices)

  • A choir designed specifically for boys with unchanged voices. No audition is required.

Choral Excellence Ensembles (Auditioned)

These ensembles require an audition and focus on developing advanced choral and performance skills.

  • Poco Voce (Years 5-6)
  • Bella Voce (Years 7-8) 
  • Bel Canto (Years 9-12 Girls, 35 voices)
  • Manchoir (Changed Male Voices)

Dance

These choirs are embedded within the school’s curriculum, ensuring every student has the opportunity to 

Our Dance program nurtures creativity, discipline, and performance excellence. Students have the opportunity to develop their skills across various dance styles in a supportive and engaging environment.

Our dancers showcase their talents at key events throughout the year, including our end-of-year performances and major competitions such as the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. These opportunities allow students to gain valuable stage experience, build confidence, and celebrate their passion for dance as part of a dynamic and thriving community.

Currumbin Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA)

CAPA has a long history with Hillcrest Christian College and utilises our facilities to offer a dedicated Hillcrest Dance Academy. 

This program is available to Hillcrest students from Kindy right through to Year 12. For more information please contact CAPA.

Music Tuition


Hillcrest offers private, paired, and group lessons in a range of instruments and vocal training. With 32 weeks of tuition per year, our flexible scheduling and competitive fees ensure that students receive high-quality instruction tailored to their needs.

Instrumental Program


Hillcrest’s Instrumental Music Program is a dynamic and thriving part of our Performing Arts Department, with over 320 musicians from Prep to Year 12. Our structured curriculum ensures that students receive a strong foundation in music, with the Years 4-6 Band and Strings Programs integrated into classroom learning.

Students can further their musical journey through private tuition with highly accomplished tutors and participation in our diverse ensemble program, catering to all skill levels from beginner to advanced.

Ensembles & Performance Opportunities

Hillcrest offers a progressive ensemble pathway, supporting students at every stage of their development:

  • Foundational Ensembles – Prelude Strings, Year 5 Beginner Band, Corelli Strings, Graeme Koehne Wind Ensemble
  • Intermediate Ensembles – Clara Schumann Concert Band, Vivaldi Strings
  • Advanced Ensembles – John Williams Wind Orchestra, Paganini Strings, Bill Evans Big Band
  • Specialist Ensembles – Rock Bands (MLC & SLC), Drumline

Students in intermediate and advanced ensembles have the opportunity to perform at school events, competitions, and community showcases, developing their musical skills in a collaborative and high-performance environment.

For those pursuing excellence in music, invitation-only ensembles provide pathways for our most accomplished musicians to refine their craft and perform at the highest level.

Musicals

Our annual College Musical is a highlight of the school calendar, involving students from all performing arts disciplines. Past productions include classics such as “Guys and Dolls,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Cinderella.” Students in Years 9-12 can audition and participate in these exciting, large-scale performances, contributing to the College’s rich tradition of musical theatre.
