Welcome to our Vibrant Sports Program

Hillcrest Christian College offers a diverse and dynamic sports program, providing students with opportunities to develop skills, compete at local, state, and national levels, and foster a lifelong love of sport. From foundational programs in Years 3-4 to competitive inter-school sports in Years 5-12, students can engage in weekly competitions, specialist training, and high-performance pathways. 

The Hillcrest Knights program supports dedicated athletes in AFL, Basketball, Futsal, Mountain Biking, Netball, and Volleyball, while the Basketball Excellence Program provides elite coaching and tournament exposure. 

Students can also participate in House Carnivals, Border School Gala Days, and representative district and state trials. 

Additional offerings such as Strength & Conditioning, Esports, and Club Basketball with Heat Basketball Club ensure every student has the opportunity to grow, compete, and excel in a supportive and values-driven sporting environment.

Hillcrest Knights (Specialist Sports Programs)


For students seeking high-level training and competition.

Hillcrest Knights is our elite training program, designed for students who are serious about developing their skills. Led by specialist coaches, these programs focus on fitness, technique, and tournament play. While there is no weekly inter-school competition, students in these programs train regularly and are often selected for Gala Days, State-based tournaments, and representative teams.

Who it’s for: Students wanting high-performance coaching in select sports. Regular training for Gala Days & State Tournaments.

Opportunities: Advanced training, fitness development, and high-level competition.

Sports Development

Years 3-4 Sports Development Program


For younger students building foundational skills. This program introduces Years 3-4 students to a variety of sports, focusing on fundamentals, sportsmanship, and team play. Over two years, students develop confidence in key sports through structured training and fun competitive play.

Who it’s for: Years 3-4 students new to team sports. Term-based program with a focus on skill development in Terms 1-4.

Opportunities: Skill-building, game experience, and sports education.

  • Cricket
  • Touch Football
  • Basketball
  • T-Ball


Years 5-6 Sports  (ISS)

(Gold Coast Interschool Sports Association)


For students ready to compete in weekly inter-school matches. Hillcrest’s Years 5-6 teams compete against 15 local schools in the Gold Coast Inter-school Sports Association, allowing students to experience competitive sport in a structured and fun environment.

Who it’s for: Years 5-6 students who enjoy competitive sport.

Opportunities: Weekly inter-school games with a focus on teamwork and growth.

Sports Included:

Semester 1: Netball (Mixed), Oztag, Soccer, AFL

Semester 2: Basketball, Touch Football, Cricket (Mixed), T-Ball (Mixed)

Training in Term 1 & Term 3 with weekly games in Terms 2 & 4.

Years 7-12 Thursday Afternoon Sports

(AGCC Interschool Competition)


For students engaging in sport or creative Thursday activities.

Every Thursday afternoon, students in Years 7-12 participate in ‘Thursday Activities’, choosing between competitive sports in the AGCC League or creative and academic activities. 

AGCC Sports Included:

AFL, Basketball, Basketball Excellence, Esports, Chess, Dance, Kokoda Challenge, Mountain Biking, Netball, Oztag, Soccer, Strength & Conditioning, Tennis, Touch Football, Volleyball

Non-Sport Thursday Activities:

  • College Musical
  • Film & Media
  • Academic Enrichment


Gala Days & Tournaments 

(Border Schools Sports)


Hillcrest partners with Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School and St Andrews Lutheran College to offer Gala Days and Carnivals, allowing students to compete in one-day interschool tournaments across different sports.

Years 7-12 students interested in extra competitive play 

Opportunities:

  • One-day tournaments across multiple sports.

Gala Day Sports:

  • Term 1: Soccer, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball
  • Term 2: Soccer, Chess, Netball
  • Term 3: Touch Football, Tennis, TBA

Carnival Events: Athletics & Cross Country pre-district selection.

House Sports Carnivals


For students representing their House in major school-wide events.

Hillcrest hosts three major House Carnivals each year, where students of all abilities can compete, participate, and build House spirit. All students in Years P-12 are able to represent their House in fun and competitive events.

House Carnival Events:

  • Swimming Carnival
  • Cross Country Carnival
  • Athletics Carnival

Format: Whole-school participation; top athletes qualify for district selection.

District, Regional & State Representation


For high-level athletes pursuing representative sport.

Hillcrest supports high-performing athletes in Hinterland District, Regional, and State-level trials, allowing students to compete at elite levels and progress through representative pathways.

Sports Included:

  • Athletics, Aquathlon, Baseball ,Basketball
  • Cricket, Cross Country, Football (Soccer)
  • Futsal, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League & Rugby Union
  • Softball, Surfing, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball

Format: District trials → Regional selection → State & National pathways.

Other Sports & Training Opportunities

For students looking to explore non-traditional sports & fitness. Beyond traditional team sports, Hillcrest offers a variety of training and competitive opportunities to help students develop strength, strategy, and digital skills.

Programs Offered:

  • Strength & Conditioning Program (gym)
  • Esports Tournaments (Years 5-10) – Just Dance, Rocket League, Mario Kart, etc.
  • Chess Club – Inter-school competitions & lunchtime games
